Brief history of Windsock Bassets:

With the urging of my husband, Harrison, I got involved with Basset hounds in 1994.  I got my first basset from Pam Heine and she was named Callaway s Gretel.  My puppy was an open red/white girl who went on to be my first Champion and Registry of Merit basset.  I got involved with showing her in conformation when she was 2 years old.  Being new in the show ring, she and I finished her championship just before she turned 4 years old.  She had one litter of 7 puppies, 6 of which were shown and finished their championship.  By then, we had acquired another male basset puppy from long-time show breeders Andy and Sue Shoemaker.  We named him Shoefly s Royal Lucky Lindy.  He quickly finished his championship.  Gretel and Lindy became the foundation of my  Windsock  bassets.  To date, I have  bred  30 AKC champions.

I am an AKC Breeder of Merit, member of the Basset Hound Club of America, past president of the Basset Hound Club of Southern California, and currently the newsletter editor of Basset Tales.  I have puppies on occasion, and believe in breeding champions to champions.  My goals are: To breed show-quality bassets with good temperament, health, heavy bone and type, and to place them in good  pet homes  that are  open  to showing their puppy to see how the new owner and puppy like going to a dog show.  In addition to conformation, I enjoy having fun with my bassets in field trials.

In 2001, my basset CH Windsock s Amelia Earhart and Lindy were featured on Animal Planet s  That s My Baby  series.  Amelia and Lindy s litter was born on TV.  I kept a little tri-colored girl from their litter and named her Windsock s Anne Morrow.  CH Annie is the mother of Pancho Barnes and grandmother to Pancho s litter shown in the photo above.

At home, I live with 8 bassets ranging in age from 10 months to 12 years.  They are:  CH Windsock-Arrowhead s Kaydet, CH Windsock s Anne Morrow, CH Windsock s Louis Zamperini, CH Windsock s Jacqueline Cochran, CH Windsock s N.A. T-6 Texan, CH Windsock s Pancho Barnes, Windsock s Winglet  Wings  and puppy Windsock s Hangar Queen  Gretel .

My Windsock logo was designed by Simon Grendene and it depicts our Stearman biplane with Gretel and Lindy in the cockpit.  I encourage others to invite a basset hound into their lives.  They add joy to ours.   In the beginning I drove a Porsche   I m now on my third Astro van!
