Basset Hound Trick Dog

The American Kennel Club is pleased to announce the launch of the AKC Trick Dog program.  The program will include four levels allowing dogs with any amount of experience the ability to participate.  Teaching their dog tricks is enjoyable for owners, mentally stimulating for their dogs and can take place at any time or place that fits their lifestyle.

All dogs (purebred and mixed breeds), can earn Trick Dog titles provided the dog is AKC-registered, enrolled with AKC Canine Partners, or enrolled in the Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program.  The titles will be listed on the dog’s AKC record and will appear on pedigrees.

Trick titles can be awarded by AKC approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluators, and the AKC will also recognize trick titles earned through the Do More With Your Dog (DMWYD) organization. Our own BHCSC  CGC evaluator, Marianne Lovejoy will be offering testing for this new title. Watch Basset Tales and the website for dates and times.

Trick Dog Testing at Basset Hound Picnic

The BHCSC will offer testing for the Trick Dog title at the 2017 Basset Hound Picnic. The testing will be available during the day in the same area as the Canine Good Citizen testing. The tests will be conducted by Marianne Lovejoy. It is suggested that you talk with her as soon as possible after you get to the picnic so that she can schedule your testing. Those who wish to use the the Canine Good Citizen title for part of their qualification for the Trick Dog title will need to have their verification of the CGC title available for it to be counted.
